Faux Fur Vest

IMG_0784Ladies fall is right around the corner, now if your anything like me your getting excited because that means fall fashion is coming too, if you love your summer, cut off denim and flip flops then my sympathies as you go through this difficult time.

Now the first thing I want to cover is that this style is all about being noticed in a crowd, this is not a look that will help you blend and it takes a certain level of nerve to rock this fierce look! When I purchased my vest last season, I have to be honest; it took me a couple months before I was brave enough to wear it out for a lunch date. I have a theory that when you get something new that is a bit different the first time you wear it is the hardest, after that it gets easier. The second thing I want to say about this is that don’t feel like you have to wear an actual animal to pull off this trend. Lots of stores now carry faux fur options, my vest is from Forever 21 and it is fake fur but still looks luxurious and there is no guilt attached to it.

Ok let’s get to wearing this fabulous trend! It’s important when you are putting your outfits together that you make sure you have one focal point, for this outfit that’s easy because it’s going to be the vest this will actually make getting dressed so much easier because you wont feel overwhelmed. When I first wore my fur vest outside of my home, I kept everything else very muted I had on a black long sleeved tee, basic dark blue skinny jeans and knee high brown leather boots, with a wide rimmed burgundy hat, we will cover my obsession with hats in another post I promise. This made it possible for me to enjoy wearing my vest and took some of the anxiety away because I knew that everything else I had on was basic and fool proof. So I knew that when I went out everyone would see the vest and that’s it.  Now, a year later I have done more experimenting and I have found some really gorgeous ways to rock this furry trend here are three options:

Option one, the LBD (Little black dress) every girl has one of these in her closet, or if your like me you have several. A little black dress with a faux fur vest over it gives that dress an updated look and really brings out your glamorous side, top the look off with some simple earrings and a pair of high heels and your are good to go!

Option two, full 70’s. I have rocked this look with the vest and it looks amazing to pull this off all you need is a soft full chiffon blouse, high wasted jeans and a pair of knee high or ankle length boot. Start by tucking your chiffon blouse into your jeans either all the way around or just the front, then add the fur vest on top and finish off with your boots of choice. Remember that the vest is the focal point.

Last but not least option three, layer it. I live in Canada, and I love my country except for one tiny detail, IT’S COLD 70% OF THE TIME! So when I am planning a night out with my girls or a date night with my man some type of jacket is always part of the outfit! So ladies this is a great time to pull out those leather or (faux leather) jackets and dress them up a bit! The only thing to remember here is that layering does add volume so try to keep things more tapered on your lower half while rocking the leather jacket and fur vest combo, go for your tighter fitting pants/jeans or rock a pencil skirt! Just make sure there is a balance.
